As a follow up to the IIM Bill 2015, please find a message from the IIMA Alumni Office. Our apologies, in case you have already received this message from the Alumni office regarding the Outlook India poll.

At least 4 of the IIMs have formally written to the Ministry / Minister expressing their serious or deep reservations about the current form of the draft IIM bill that was put up in June 2015.

We are waiting to talk formally to the ministry.

Meanwhile, the media appears to have picked up the issue. There is a poll being conducted by Outlook magazine which is available at http://www.outlookindia.com/surveyvote.aspx?survey=89

This poll will help gauge public opinion on the Bill.

Do spare some time and take a look.

It is important for citizens of India to know that quality in higher education comes from autonomy with accountability and micromanagement does not constitute autonomy. Our Director and Chairman have been quite candid on this score.

    Thank you.

    Dear IIMA US Alumni,

You may be aware of the Draft IIM Bill 2015 now pending with the Government of India.  There is a deep concern that some provisions of the Bill would seriously compromise the autonomy of the Institute. Both the Chairman of IIMA Society Mr. A. M. Naik and Director Ashish Nanda have expressed their serious reservations about the Bill.

The Institute had earlier circulated the Chairman’s letter to all alumni.  A copy of the letter has been posted on our website www.iimaalumni.us.  In his letter Mr. Naik points out that the bill lays out the requirement for prior Central Government permission for admission of candidates to various programs, determining posts and emoluments of faculty and staff, specifying the fees, formation of departments, establishment and maintenance of buildings, powers of the Academic Council, powers and responsibilities of the Director, among other things. Director Nanda’s detailed analyses of the Bill’s provisions is available online at  http://estv.in/iima

Please lend your support to this important cause. Time is of essence.  Deadline for public comments on the bill is likely to be extended. However, there are other avenues available to have your voices heard.

Here is what we urge you to do:

     1.  To look-up the proposed IIM Bill please visit the link

     2.  E-mail your views to iimbill2015.edu@gov.in and shailykm.edu@nic.in. Please write a few lines to establish your own accomplishments so that your comments have more credibility with those who read them.  In our experience they actually read the comments and respond to them.

     3.  Write comments, letters to the editor, and articles, and try to get them published in Indian or US newspapers.

     4. Write to the Prime Minister's web site directly.  The URL ishttp://pgportal.gov.in/pmocitizen/Grievancepmo.aspx

    5. IIMA Alumni Association Ahmedabad Chapter is setting up a web portal with all the facts and figures at one place. They are starting a signature campaign for a petition to the Ministry of HRD. We will notify you when the site is up. Please join the signature drive.

Please visit our website www.iimaalumni.us for frequent updates.
